Responding to new data revealed by the HSJ, Minesh Patel, Head of Policy at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:

“It is an incredibly turbulent time for cancer care and the NHS — and the current uncertainty in Westminster is deeply concerning. Hardworking cancer professionals are doing their best to treat people but despite this, every month, tens of thousands of people are facing excruciating waits to confirm if they have cancer or start treatment, in a system that is under huge strain.

“Cancer won’t wait and neither can we. It’s vital that the Government urgently invests in cancer services and sets out a clear strategy to train and retain more doctors and nurses in the upcoming 10-Year Cancer Plan, to tackle this backlog and ensure everyone with cancer gets the timely and quality care they desperately need.”
